In 2015 we embarked on our digital transformation in DNV, and it’s been an exciting journey both for DNV and for me as an individual, that we’re still in the middle of. In this blog post, I want to share my transformation journey from a leadership perspective, and some of my reflections and key takeaways from these years that I hope will inspire you in the Red Cross and Red Crescent.
Insights and Inspirations
We’re getting ready to launch the Data Playbook in December 2021. We’ve convened 1000s during IFRC Data and Digital Week and 100s in the Data Playbook v1 project. There is currently structure and content for all ten playbook modules (building on the Data Playbook beta).
We recently organized a series of workshops with the IFRC on Digital ID to review recent learning and experiences. The workshops were organized around the following question: What should the IFRC’s vision for digital identity look like?
Data is a team sport. Across the IFRC and National Societies, we use data and data literacy in our delivery of humanitarian services. Often, it isn’t always considered ‘data work’, but if you think about it – we connect with communities, listen and support humanitarian services, and frequently analyse and document our efforts with feedback loops. We’ve curated and created the IFRC Data Playbook as a social learning tool of games, checklists, sessions, slides and scenarios to guide team conversations on their data journey.
A sprint is a community engagement opportunity to identify and enlist people outside of the core team to develop content and drive future use. The people who come to the sprints have the potential for being power users of V1. Sprints are where the co-creation rubber meets the road.
April 2021 saw the Red Cross Red Crescent’s first-ever week-long, participant-driven and fully virtual event organised around one theme: data and digital. Around 4,000 staff and volunteers from the Red Cross Red Crescent network gathered online to share, learn, and discuss data and digital innovations, initiatives, and ideas.
The IFRC Data Playbook is a collection of social learning materials for developing data skills for groups or teams. The RCRC network has incredible knowledge and skills. The IFRC Data Playbook is created by you for all of us. Thus, You are the data playbook – we curate and create with you to help our network on the RCRC data journey.
