IFRC Strategy 2030 cites transformations of collaborating as a distributed network and undergoing a digital transformation as two priorities. We explored how to achieve these goals with the innovation program and product – the IFRC Data Playbook v1.
Data protection principles and practices should guide every humanitarian at each stage of project development. What makes you and your team responsible data users?
We’ve hosted data playbook workshops with avocados, limes, oranges, and a bag of peanuts: You can learn about data quality standards, decision-making with data, and basic data analysis,… and have snacks!
Together with 100s of Red Cross Red Crescent staff, volunteers, and partners, we’ve compiled over 120 short exercises, games, scenarios and handouts to help you and your teams discuss, learn, and share all aspects of the data lifecycle.
We’ve spent over a year designing, upgrading, and testing content for the IFRC Data Playbook v1. It’s now time to discover what’s in it.
Wow! Over the past 11 months, we’ve been digging into ‘data is a teamsport’ with special events (sprints), learning and training. All this collaboration and social learning has resulted in us creating an updated IFRC Data Playbook version 1. The original IFRC Data Playbook Beta was published in 2018 and continues to be in use around our network. With Strategy 2030 citing digital transformation as a priority, our team set out to update the Data Playbook and align it with the IFRC Digital transformation maturity model.
We’re getting ready to launch the Data Playbook in December 2021. We’ve convened 1000s during IFRC Data and Digital Week and 100s in the Data Playbook v1 project. There is currently structure and content for all ten playbook modules (building on the Data Playbook beta).
Data is a team sport. Across the IFRC and National Societies, we use data and data literacy in our delivery of humanitarian services. Often, it isn’t always considered ‘data work’, but if you think about it – we connect with communities, listen and support humanitarian services, and frequently analyse and document our efforts with feedback loops. We’ve curated and created the IFRC Data Playbook as a social learning tool of games, checklists, sessions, slides and scenarios to guide team conversations on their data journey.
A sprint is a community engagement opportunity to identify and enlist people outside of the core team to develop content and drive future use. The people who come to the sprints have the potential for being power users of V1. Sprints are where the co-creation rubber meets the road.
The IFRC Data Playbook is a collection of social learning materials for developing data skills for groups or teams. The RCRC network has incredible knowledge and skills. The IFRC Data Playbook is created by you for all of us. Thus, You are the data playbook – we curate and create with you to help our network on the RCRC data journey.
